The First Theological Obligation of the Mature Intellect in Jami's Poetic Creed
In Section 1 (Beginning) of Subhat al-Abrar (from Jami's Haft Awrang), the poet outlines the primary theological obligation incumbent upon every rational and mature human being.
According to Jami, this first obligation consists of a two-step process of faith (iman):
- Internal Verification (Tasdiq): Deeply accepting and holding within one's heart and soul the reality of a single, eternal Creator of humanity and the entire universe.
- Verbal Confession (Iqrar): Declaring this belief with the tongue without hesitation or denial, specifically acknowledging God's absolute oneness and the prophetic mission of Muhammad.
This formulation reflects classical scholastic theology (Kalam) regarding the first duty (awwal wajib) of a mukallaf, translated into accessible, didactic Persian verse.
