In Section 15, Jami confesses that neither intellect (خرد) nor speech (سخن) can encompass the divine essence or adequately thank God's infinite bounties; speech is only a windborne trifle (بادآورد) carried from the garden of divine beauty. He counsels reverent silence, urging the poet to fall quiet and become all ear like a pearl-shell (صدف). Yet his own poetic nature, described as the humblest of God's faithful birds, longs to remember God alone, so he asks that his words be drawn out of ordinary discourse and kept measured (موزون) within their rhyme, so that they may gain balance and worth on the scale (میزان) of divine acceptance.
