The Metaphor of the Equator and the Shadowless Prophet in Golshan-e Raz
In Section 23 of Mahmud Shabestari's Golshan-e Raz (The Rose Garden of Mystery), the spiritual perfection of the Prophet Muhammad is metaphorically compared to the sun at its zenith over the equator. Shabestari notes that just as an upright figure at the equator casts no shadow at noon, the Prophet's spiritual station is utterly pure and devoid of the 'shadow' of material existence or imperfection. This allegory illustrates the absolute peak of Prophethood, where the transmission of divine light is complete and unmediated, distinguishing it from other degrees of prophecy and saintship that still possess a metaphorical shadow.
