The Metaphor of the Sun and the Speck in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh (Chapter 38, Poem 5)

In Poem 5 of Chapter 38 in Attar's Mokhtar Nameh, the poet employs the classic Sufi metaphor of the sun (خورشید) and the speck of dust (ذره) to illustrate spiritual dependency and perception. Just as a speck is only made visible by a ray of sunlight, the infinitesimal or hidden aspects of the Divine (often symbolized in Persian poetry by the Beloved's invisible mouth, دهن) can only be perceived through the overwhelming radiance of the Divine's own manifestation (the face). This highlights the philosophical concept that all spiritual vision relies entirely on the light provided by the Beloved.
