In this section of Attar's Mosibat Nameh, a 'perfect one' (kamil) explains that the path to God is paved with 'boundless, heart-captivating afflictions.' The poet critiques those who flee from these trials ('flee behind your wall'), arguing that one cannot taste the 'wine of His grace' without first traversing the 'valley of His wrath.' This reflects the Sufi concept that spiritual healing and divine intimacy (darman) are impossible without the prior experience of pain and tribulation (bala).
