In Section 118 of the Haft Awrang, Jami expounds on the perpetuity of silence (dawam-e samt), which is the second pillar of the spiritual station of the Substitutes (Abdal). He categorizes silence into two essential forms:

1. Outward Silence (samt-e lisan / samt-e payda): The physical restraint of the tongue from engaging in mundane conversations and idle talk (zhazh) with others.
2. Inward Silence (samt-e del / samt-e penhani): The quietude of the heart, which prevents internal distractions and guards spiritual secrets.

Jami emphasizes that unless speech is directed toward God or spoken for His sake (lillah wa ma'allah), it squanders the heart's treasury of secrets and results in spiritual detriment.
