The Parable of Seeking Counsel from an Enemy in Rumi's Masnavi

In Book Four, Section 75 of the Masnavi, Rumi relates a story about a man who seeks advice from an adversary to escape a dilemma. The adversary honestly refuses to give counsel, warning the man that an enemy's advice will never lead to success. He compares seeking help from an enemy to seeking a guard from a wolf. The narrative highlights the importance of discernment in choosing advisors, emphasizing that sincere and beneficial counsel can only be expected from a true friend, whereas an enemy's nature inherently compels them to mislead or cause harm.
