This allegory in Attar's Mosibat Nameh illustrates the concept of loyalty and gratitude through the story of a thief. Upon entering a house to steal, the thief accidentally eats a piece of bread, realizing afterward that he has consumed the host's bread and salt (nan-o-namak). Out of respect for the sacred bond of hospitality and the duty of loyalty, he immediately aborts the theft, demonstrating that even a thief must uphold the ethical principle of gratitude and covenant (haqq-gozari).
