The Prologue and Royal Exposition in the Beginning of the Khosrow Nameh

In Section 14 of the Khosrow Nameh, Attar initiates his epic romance by invoking the nightingale (bulbul) as a symbol of the passionate storyteller of love. This lyrical call transitions into the narrative's exposition, introducing a magnificent and globally sovereign king whose power is compared to Solomon's. Despite his absolute worldly dominion and vast wealth, the king suffers from the existential grief of having no heir, a classic motif in Persian epic poetry that sets the stage for the heroic and romantic journey of his future son, Khosrow.
