The Theme of Deathbed Bewilderment and Regret in Asrar Nameh

In Section 8 of Attar's Asrar Nameh, a dying father responds to his son's inquiry by expressing profound bewilderment ('hayrat') and acknowledging a lifelong state of negligence ('ghuflat'). The father confesses that his life was spent in idle talk and unawareness, illustrating the Sufi perspective that the reality of death strips away worldly illusions. This leaves the soul in awe of the Divine and in deep regret for the time wasted outside of true spiritual mindfulness.
