The Trade-Off of Intellectual Property Rights

Intellectual property rights, such as patents, are designed to encourage the creation of new knowledge by allowing creators to profit from their inventions. However, this system also leads to higher prices and limited access for consumers for a period of time. Critically evaluate this trade-off. In your answer, explain why this government intervention is considered necessary and discuss whether the benefits of incentivizing innovation outweigh the costs of temporary market power.
