The US ICT Investment Boom and Bust (Mid-1990s to Early 2000s)

The large-scale introduction of new information and communication technologies (ICT) into the US economy from the mid-1990s triggered a significant high-tech investment boom. Aggregate data shows that investment in these new technologies experienced sustained growth of around 10% or higher throughout the second half of the 1990s, a rate of expansion not seen in subsequent periods. This boom was followed by a sharp bust in the early 2000s, marking a distinct cycle of rapid investment growth and contraction.
