This type of fermentation is where lactic acid is the only fermentation product. An example includes S. thermophiles which is used in yogurt production. 

Homolactic fermentation

This is a type of fermentation that produces a mixture of lactic acid, acetic acid, ethanol, and CO2 as a result of using the pentose phosphate pathway instead of the EMP pathway of glycolysis. An example includes Leuconostoc mesenteroides which is involved in vegetables like cucumbers, cabbage,  pickles and sauerkraut. 

Heterolactic fermentation

There are 2 main common types of fermentation and they are homlactic fermentation and heterolatic fermentation
