Using a Long-Term Material Price Agreement to Protect Job Margins

A long-term supply agreement is a written arrangement that holds a supplier's prices steady for a set term. An electrical contractor can use it to separate the estimate from later market swings on items such as copper conductors, rigid conduit, or other large-quantity materials. The agreement usually spells out the quantities covered, when deliveries may be requested, and how long the quoted price remains valid. It is most useful when a small percentage increase would add a large dollar amount to the job.
