Wage Discrimination and Reduced Total Household Paid Work

A significant consequence of gender-based wage discrimination is a reduction in the total hours of paid work undertaken by the household. In the Ana and Luis model, the wage penalty imposed on Ana incentivizes a new optimal choice where the couple collectively chooses to perform fewer hours of paid work overall, dropping from 12 to 10 hours.
