Water Pollution during the British Industrial Revolution

During the Industrial Revolution, rivers and other water sources in and near industrial centers became heavily contaminated. Factories discharged untreated chemical waste directly into the water, while the lack of proper sewage systems in overcrowded cities meant that human waste also ended up in the rivers. This widespread pollution destroyed aquatic life and led to devastating outbreaks of waterborne diseases, such as cholera.
