WEIRD Societies
WEIRD is an acronym that stands for Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic. Henrich, Heine, and Norenzayan (2010) highlighted that psychological research has disproportionately focused on WEIRD societies, and these findings are often incorrectly applied to non-WEIRD populations. Their research demonstrated significant differences between people in WEIRD and non-Western, less industrialized societies across various domains, such as perception, cooperation, and moral reasoning.
