What a Panel Upgrade Scope Must Capture

A complete panel-upgrade scope should be detailed enough for another electrician to order materials and verify code compliance without making assumptions. It should identify the new panel by manufacturer, product line, main ampacity, number of breaker spaces, and the enclosure classification appropriate for the installation location. It should also describe the utility-side connection, including the service size, whether the feed is overhead or underground, and whether the meter socket or meter base will be replaced. Grounding and bonding requirements belong in the same document as well, including any grounding electrodes used, a concrete-encased electrode if present, the bond to the metal water piping system, and the intersystem bonding termination. The scope should end by naming the branch circuits that require AFCI or GFCI protection under the NEC edition adopted by the local authority.
