Ziehl-Neelsen Technique
The Ziehl-Neelsen technique is a specific method of acid-fast staining. Its fundamental distinguishing characteristic is the use of heat during the primary staining process to infuse the carbolfuchsin dye into the waxy acid-fast cells. Following this heated primary stain, an acid-alcohol decolorizing agent and a methylene blue secondary counterstain are applied.
