Alanine

Alanine is an example of an amino acid where the side chain (R\text{R} group) is a methyl group (CH3\text{CH}_3). Its structure consists of a central carbon atom attached to a carboxyl group (COO\text{COO}^-), a hydrogen atom (H\text{H}), an amino group (NH3\text{NH}_3), and the methyl side chain (CH3\text{CH}_3).
