A company introduces a new, highly efficient but mentally draining software system. To compensate, they give all affected employees a pay raise. Assuming an employee's next best alternative (such as being unemployed and receiving benefits) remains unchanged, explain how it is possible for this employee to now have a smaller economic surplus from their job, even with the higher wage.
