Analyzing Employment Rents in a Strong Economy

A study of the Connecticut labor market from 1993-2004 found that even during this period of economic prosperity, the cost of job loss for an employee (their employment rent) remained significantly high. This seems counterintuitive, as one might expect finding a new job to be relatively easy in a strong economy. Analyze the reasons why an employment rent can still be substantial for a worker even when overall economic conditions are favorable. In your analysis, consider factors beyond the simple availability of other jobs.
