Dispensing With Informed Consent

In certain psychological studies, such as unrecruited field experiments, obtaining informed consent is not always required. Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) may allow researchers to dispense with informed consent in situations where the study is not expected to cause any harm and is conducted entirely within the context of people’s ordinary, everyday activities.
