دفتر سوم - بخش ۱۵۷ - قانع شدن آن طالب به تعلیم زبان مرغ خانگی و سگ و اجابت موسی علیه السلام / Book Three - Section 157 - That Seeker Being Content with Learning the Language of the Domestic Fowl and the Dog, and the Compliance of Moses, Peace Be Upon Him

Original content

English translation

He said: "At least, where is the speech of the dog, truly? The speech of the domestic fowl, the worshipper of sloth?"

Moses said: "Heed! Go — you know — the time has come; The speech of these two shall become manifest to you."

At dawn, for the sake of trial, He stood waiting at the threshold.

The handmaid shook out the tablecloth and there fell A piece of stale bread, remnants of provisions.

A rooster snatched it up like a pledge; The dog said: "You have done us wrong — go!

You are able to eat wheat grain, but I Am helpless to eat grain in this homeland.

Wheat and barley, and the rest of the grains, You can eat, but I cannot, O joyful one.

This crust of bread that is our portion of bread, You are snatching even this much from the dogs."
