Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and how it can detect changes (in individuals with schizophrenia)
CT and MRI scans are able to detect white brain matter changes, loss of gray matter, changes to the temporal and front lobes (and temporal lobe volume). Using these scans, doctors may be able to diagnose the illness more easily. They also may. be able to examine whether an individual will develop this disease in the near future. CT scans display tissues, bones, and blood vessels. MRI’s are different from X-Rays because they don’t use radiation in order to create images. MRI’s are more effective at detecting anomalies and alterations in the small areas of the brain (brain stem and pituitary gland).
