COVID-19 Is an Independent Risk Factor for Acute Ischemic Stroke
-
The purpose of this study was to review the link between COVID-19 and acute ischemic stroke.
-
41 cases and 82 control subjects, from 6 hospitals in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, were matched by age, sex, and risk factors.
-
Case subjects had confirmed ischemic stroke while control subjects did not have any evidence of ischemic stroke.
-
Of patients that had acute ischemic stroke, 46.3% had COVID-19 infection while in the control group, 18.3% had COVID-19.
-
It was found that COVID-19 had a significant, independent association with acute ischemic stroke after adjusting for age, sex, and risk factors.
