Critique of Household Labor Specialization

A two-person household, Alex and Ben, agree to contribute equally to the total weekly work hours (paid employment + unpaid household chores). Initially, both worked 30 hours/week in paid jobs and did 10 hours/week of chores, for a total of 40 hours each. Following an economic shift, Alex's paid work is reduced to 20 hours/week, while Ben's paid work increases to 40 hours/week. To maintain their agreement of equal total work hours, they reallocate the chores so that Alex now performs all 20 hours of weekly chores, and Ben performs none.

From an economic perspective, critique this new arrangement. In your response, identify and explain one potential long-term benefit and one potential long-term drawback of strictly adhering to their 'equal total work hours' rule in this new situation.
