Development of CREST
The development of the Cognitive Remediation and Emotion Skills Training (CREST) intervention is based on the cognitive interpersonal model. This model proposes that cognitive, socio-emotional, and interpersonal elements interact to cause and maintain eating disorders. The training was modified to address emotional processes after studies showed that emotional difficulties are highly prevalent in individuals diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. Additionally, based on clinician and patient input, the specific aspects of emotion processing perceived as most difficult and in need of intervention were prioritized.
