Principle of Diminishing Average Product of Labor

When one input in a production process, such as labor, is increased while other inputs, like land, are held constant, a point is reached where the average output per unit of that variable input will decline. For instance, as more workers are added to a fixed area of farmland, the average amount of grain harvested by each worker will eventually fall.
