Distinctions between online learning, distance learning and E-learning
Moore, Dickson-Deane, and Galyen (2011) distinguish three related modes of remote education. Distance learning is education for learners who are physically separated from their instructors, and can also include learning that occurs asynchronously. E-learning is a subset of distance learning, defined as learning delivered through tools that are web-based, web-distributed, or web-capable. Online learning is a more recent, refined form of distance learning, most often described as access to learning experiences via technology.
