Electrical Material Price Swings and Substitution Planning

Prices for electrical materials can shift between the time a bid is prepared and the time supplies are ordered. Items such as copper conductors, steel conduit, and factory-made electrical parts are affected by commodity markets, freight costs, tariffs, and supply shortages. Because of this, a price that is acceptable during estimating may no longer work later. Contractors reduce this risk by using price-lock arrangements, adding documented contingency amounts, and following formal approval procedures when a material must be changed.
