Event Schema (Cognitive Script)

An event schema, also known as a cognitive script, is a mental framework detailing the sequence of behaviors expected in a specific situation (Schank & Abelson, 1977). These schemas become routine through consistent performance and outline the expected actions in common scenarios, such as dining at a restaurant or riding an elevator.
