Example of Placing Sentences in Context for Meaningful Encoding
By themselves, statements like "The notes were sour because the seams split," "The voyage wasn't delayed because the bottle shattered," and "The haystack was important because the cloth ripped" are confusing and difficult to recall. However, when these statements are associated with contextual prompts—"bagpipe," "ship christening," and "parachutist"—they become much more memorable because they are placed in context, making the material meaningful and far better encoded.
