Fine Focus Knob

The ocular lens is situated within the eyepiece of a microscope and typically provides a magnification of $${}10	imes$$. Depending on the design, a microscope may be monocular, containing one ocular lens, or binocular, containing two.

Ocular Lens

Objective lenses are located on a rotating nosepiece at the opposite end of the body tube from the ocular lens. The stage is a platform on the microscope where a glass slide holding a specimen is securely clipped into place for observation. It features a central opening that allows light emitted from the illuminator below to pass upward and illuminate the specimen.

A rheostat functions as a dimmer switch on a microscope, providing an alternative method to regulate image brightness. It achieves this by directly controlling the electrical intensity of the high-intensity bulb within the illuminator.
