Generator Feeder and Load Planning

The generator feeder is the dedicated run from the generator to the transfer equipment. Its conductor size and breaker size are chosen from the unit's nameplate MCA (Minimum Circuit Ampacity) and MOP (Maximum Overcurrent Protection). Load planning means deciding which branch circuits the generator will supply, such as a refrigerator, water pump, heating equipment, and selected lighting. If an HVAC unit is included, it should normally be on its own dedicated circuit sized to that unit's nameplate. Listing the selected loads in the proposal helps prevent disputes about what the system was meant to cover.
