Roles of Heparan Sulfate and Heparins in SARS-CoV-2 Attachment and Infection
Cell-surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans, including syndecans 1 and 4, support SARS-CoV-2 attachment and infection. The supplied evidence also reports that heparan sulfate supports transmission by primary dendritic cells, while unfractionated heparin and low-molecular-weight heparins can inhibit spike binding and epithelial-cell infection in vitro. In anti-ACE2-treated RT4 cells, unfractionated heparin inhibited spike binding more strongly than the low-molecular-weight heparins dalteparin and enoxaparin.
