Methodology for Creating a Composite Governance Quality Index

To create a single, simplified measure of governance quality from the World Bank's multiple criteria, a specific methodology is employed. This process leverages the strong correlation between the different governance indicators. An average is calculated from the six different governance rankings for each country, where a lower average score signifies poorer governance. This composite score is then converted into a percentile, ranking each of the 167 countries in the sample on a scale from 0 to 100%.
