Exposure therapy is a therapeutic technique where a client is presented with a feared object, situation, or activity in a safe environment, with the goal of reducing their fear and avoidance through habituation, or getting used to it. This method can be implemented through real-life exposure (in vivo), imagination, or virtual reality. First reported by Mary Cover Jones in 1924, this approach is used to treat various anxiety-related conditions like phobias, PTSD, and OCD. It works by facilitating processes such as habituation, extinction, building self-efficacy, and emotional processing.

This CBT technique takes an in-depth look at your negative thought patterns so that individuals can begin to reframe their thoughts into more productive, positive ones. This technique is useful for individuals who tend to over-generalize and put too much importance on minor things, and assume the worst outcomes constantly.

Role playing allows for individuals to play out scenarios that would typically induce stress or fear in your life. This helps to learn how to alter behavior. It consists of three core components: 'A' for Action or Activating Event, which is the external situation; 'B' for Belief, which represents the individual's thoughts and interpretation of the event; and 'C' for Consequences, which are the emotional and behavioral outcomes resulting from the belief.
