Omission of Key Factors in Work-Leisure Models
A key objection to the standard work-leisure model is its narrow assumption that individuals are only motivated by two goods: consumption and free time. This simplification omits other crucial determinants of work-hour decisions. For example, the model does not account for long-term career ambitions, where individuals might work more to gain experience for future promotions, or for other demands on a person's time, such as family obligations related to the number of children and the availability of childcare.
