Purpose of Performance Appraisals

Theoretically, performance appraisals are designed to be a valuable asset that helps an organization achieve its goals, and employees will often actively seek feedback on their performance if it is not provided. Beyond this foundational purpose, modern appraisals are complex processes used to motivate employees, foster improvement, and expand competencies. They help identify training needs, evaluate training programs, recognize success, manage performance issues, and create formal documentation for personnel decisions like termination.
