Concept

Role of Illusory Correlations in Stereotyping and Prejudice

Illusory correlations contribute significantly to the formation of stereotypes and prejudicial attitudes. This occurs when an individual perceives a false association between a particular social group and specific behaviors. Such inaccurate connections can establish and reinforce stereotypes, which in turn can foster prejudicial attitudes and potentially lead to discriminatory behavior.
