In the Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, Sanai defines the bestial self (nafs-e bahimi) through the dual forces of anger (khashm) and lust (shahwat), which he traces back to gluttony and consumption (loqmeh). He argues that individuals enslaved by physical desires are worse than idolaters, as lust repeatedly drives them back to vice. To overcome this animalistic state, Sanai contrasts the bestial qualities of anger and lust with human perfection achieved through knowledge (ilm), wisdom (hikmat), chastity (effat), and forbearance (hilm), which serve as the tools of the rational intellect.
