There is a low correlation between suggestion and dissociation. The concept of suggestion is broad and hard to test in an experimental setting. It would also make results hard to falsify. Another issue is that there is evidence of dissociation in cultures that have little to no media influence. That makes it hard to explain theory in a universal setting. 

Sociocognitive Model limitations

Incorporates social, cognitive, and cultural variables that lead to the manifestations of dissociative symptoms. Dissociation is linked to media influences and cognitive therapies. There are suggestions to a predisposition in fantasy proneness.

It is suggested that disruptions in the sleep wake cycle guide dissociative experiences through attentional lapses, micro sleeps, decreased cognitive control, memory failure and fragmentation, and impaired reality judgement.
