Sources of Productivity from Specialization

An 18th-century economist described a factory where ten workers, each specializing in one or two simple tasks, could produce tens of thousands of pins per day. If those same ten workers each tried to make a complete pin from start to finish, they would produce very few. Analyze and explain the three main reasons why breaking down the production process and having workers specialize leads to such a dramatic increase in output.
