Scales of Specialization: Individual, Firm, and National

Specialization is not limited to one level of an economy but occurs at various scales. At the individual scale, people focus on specific jobs, such as being a welder or a teacher, rather than producing everything they consume. At the firm scale, a company might specialize in producing a particular product or just a single component in a production chain. This extends to the national scale, where countries specialize in certain industries for export, such as Cambodia's focus on gold and knitwear or Singapore's on integrated circuits.
