Standard Form of a Polynomial

A polynomial is written in standard form when its terms are arranged in descending order of degree, starting with the term of highest degree and ending with the term of lowest degree. For example, 4x4+x3+8x29x+14x^4 + x^3 + 8x^2 - 9x + 1 is in standard form because the degrees decrease from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 to 0 as you read from left to right. Writing polynomials in standard form is a recommended habit that makes it easier to identify the degree of the polynomial at a glance.
