Concept

Statistical Modeling: Estimating the asymptomatic proportion of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship, Yokohama, Japan, 2020

The asymptomatic proportion calculated is made up of both asymptomatic infections and cases who had not yet developed symptoms (pre-symptomatic). Each data point (i) includes a time interval for when an individual may have been infected [ai , bi ] and a binary variable (c) indicating if an individual was symptomatic or not as of February 18. The unknown time at which individual i was infected is denoted with X and if they later develop symptoms D indicates the delay from infection to symptom onset. Cumulative density function: (CDF), Fd. Asymptomatic proportion is denoted p.
