Studies of pregnant individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 consistently find that a large share are asymptomatic at the time of admission for delivery, which prompted recommendations for universal screening on admission rather than symptom-based testing alone. Among symptomatic patients, most experience mild disease, while severe or critical illness is uncommon. Because COVID-19 in pregnancy can produce a presentation resembling HELLP syndrome, careful differential diagnosis is needed to avoid unnecessary obstetric interventions. Individual screening studies (New York City and southern Connecticut), a case series of infants born to infected mothers in Wuhan, and work on the HELLP-like presentation are detailed in the child nodes.
