Concept
The Allegory of Hippocrates and Contentment in Hadiqat al-Haqiqah
This concept explores the allegory presented in Section 40 of Sanai's Hadiqat al-Haqiqah, where the philosopher Hippocrates lives humbly in a barrel. When a king encounters him and offers to grant three wishes, Hippocrates requests favors that exceed human power, such as the forgiveness of sins and the restoration of youth. The narrative illustrates the Sufi themes of qana'at (contentment) and tark al-hajah (abandonment of need), demonstrating the limits of earthly kingship and the spiritual superiority of independence from worldly desires.
