بود بقراط را خمی مسکن
بودش آن خم به جای پیراهن

روزی از اتفاق سرما یافت
از سوی خم به سوی دشت شتافت

پادشاه زمان برو بگذشت
دیدش او را چنان برهنه به دشت

شد بر او فراز و گفت ای تن
کر بخواهی سبک سه حاجه ز من

هر سه حالی روا کنم تو بخواه
که منم بر زمانه شاهنشاه

گفت بقراط حاجت اول
عملم هست یک به یک به خلل

گنهم محو کن بیامرزم
کز گرانی چو کوه البرزم

گفت ویحک خدای بتواند
مزد بدهد گناه بستاند

گفت برگوی حاجت دومین
که منم پادشاه روی زمین

گفت پیرم مرا جوان گردان
عجز و ضعف از نهاد من بستان

گفت این از خدای باید خواست
از من این خواستن نیاید راست

زود پیش آر حاجت سومین
از من این آرزو مخواه چنین

گفت روزی من فزون گردان
جانم از چنگ مرگ باز رهان

گفت این نیز کرد نتوانم
ملکم بر جهان نه یزدانم

گفت برتر شو از بر خورشید
که رطب خیره بار نارد بید

حاجت از کردگار خواهم من
وز تو حالی بدو پناهم من

تو چو من عاجزی و مجبوری
وز بزرگی و برتری دوری

برتری مر خدای را زیباست
که به ملکت همیشه بی همتاست

یارب ای سیدی به حق رسول
دور گردان دل مرا ز فضول

ای خداوند فرد بی همتا
جسم را همچو اسم بخش سنا

English translation

Hippocrates had a barrel for his dwelling, That barrel served him instead of a shirt. One day, by chance, he felt the cold, He hurried from the barrel to the plain. The king of the time passed by him, Saw him naked thus on the plain. He approached him and said, 'O man, If you readily ask three needs from me, I will fulfill all three at once; ask away, For I am the emperor of the age.' Hippocrates said, 'The first need: My actions are flawed, one by one; Erase my sins and forgive me, For in burden I am like Mount Alborz.' The king said, 'Woe to you! Only God can Give reward and take away sin.' He said, 'Speak the second need, For I am the king of the face of the earth.' He said, 'I am old, make me young, Take frailty and weakness from my constitution.' The king said, 'This must be asked of God; Asking this of me is not right. Quickly state the third need, Do not ask such a wish from me.' He said, 'Increase my daily sustenance, And save my soul from the grasp of death.' The king said, 'This too I cannot do, I am a king over the world, not God.' He said, 'Move away from the front of the sun, For a willow tree does not randomly bear fresh dates. I will seek my need from the Creator, And for now, I take refuge in Him from you. You are as helpless and constrained as I am, And far from true greatness and supremacy. Supremacy befits only God, Who is always matchless in His kingdom. O Lord, O my Master, by the right of the Messenger, Keep my heart away from excess. O unique and matchless Lord, Grant radiance to the body just like the name.'
